New!  Sing with us!

San Angelo Choral Society

San Angelo Choral Society's Inaugural Concert, April 27, 2019
Dan Forrest's "Requiem for the Living."  Click to listen!

Everyone welcome!

  • Easy audition, non-competitive.  The audition will be mostly for confirming your voice part.  If you can sing "Happy Birthday" and "The Star-Spangled Banner" in your pitch range, you're in!  (If you can't, we'll teach you how to sing.  So you're still in!)

  • Singing Handel’s Messiah & other symphonic works.

  • Will rehearse weekly and perform locally 2-5 times per year.

  • Adults have busy schedules.  So it's fine to sign up for one semester or one project at a time.  Memberships will still be annual, because this is a Choral Society.  It's a singing club.  We all need to support our club!

Please email Suzanne about joining.
We look forward to singing with you!

A group of people who love singing!  We will be a group of volunteer singers, independent of any other organization and self-supporting.  Eventually we will work up to having a paid director and paid accompanist for rehearsals, and a hired orchestra and conductor for concerts.  We will need to pay membership dues to help fund our activities, and rely on ticket sales and fundraising for the rest.  We can look into grant funding as well.

For all this, we can look to the Harrisburg Choral Society as an example.  Its organization and excellence have made it a model for other choral societies for over 100 years!

What will we sound like?  Click on the video above to hear our first concert, the one that started it all.
We didn't have a name yet, but we'd already begun!
Rehearsal direction was by Dr. Luellen Myer of Angelo State University.
Concert direction was by Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha of Angelo State University.
Building on the firm foundation they gave us, we are beginning the San Angelo Choral Society in Spring 2019!

We will start with the Christmas portion of Handel's Messiah in Fall 2019, because it is in English.  Future plans are for the Easter portion of Handel's Messiah, Bach's Wachet Auf, Jenkins' Te Deum, and similar great choral works.  We will sing with live orchestras for our performances, which will be 2-5 times per year.

Because there is nothing like singing music with people who love singing!  And with a live orchestra!

We will be meeting for rehearsals in the social hall at St. Mary's Orthodox Church at 801 Montecito Drive, San Angelo, Texas 76903.  Information and a map can be found at the church website,

Rehearsals will be Tuesdays evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm.

Many hands make the work light!  Here is what we need:

  • Singers.  That means You!  And your friends!

  • A piano.  Anyone have a good, working, acoustic piano to spare?

  • A rehearsal space.  We think we have one already, but let us know if you know of a church or other large space that would let us rehearse.

  • A director.  Suzanne Lichtenstein is a choir director and voice teacher, experienced in choral societies.  She is also a pianist and piano teacher.  She will train and direct the choir during rehearsals.  Eventually we will work up to being able to hire an orchestral conductor as needed for concerts.  (Suzanne would like to sing.)

  • Piano accompanists for rehearsals.  There are several highly-trained people in the area who are qualified.

  • Musical scores.  These can be borrowed, rented, or purchased.

  • A webmaster.  This website is a temporary home for the San Angelo Choral Society.  We need a permanent one!

  • Enthusiastic volunteers to help.  There will be various projects involved in starting and running a large organization like this.  There is room for everyone to be involved!

Please email Suzanne about joining.
We look forward to singing with you!
